Why Babe City's Newest Single "luv u 4ever" Should Be Your Valentine This Year

Patchwork/noise-pop trio Babe City released their single "luv u 4ever"–very fittingly–on Valentine’s Day as a follow-up to their November debut album I Love You Forever. The group consisting of vocalist and frontwoman Mia Tims, guitarist Theo Hoffstrom, and drummer Jackson Cathcart has an overall vibe in line with the internet-core Myspace bedroom band revival we are seeing as of late. Think cheeky notes on a CD you burn for a friend or flash photography in the alleyway of the tiny venue of your dreams. They embrace tender vocals floating over twinkling guitar runs or waves of distortion, akin to an auditory weighted blanket."luv u 4ever" diverges from the album in its approach; it tends to have a more atmospheric and longing, even melancholic air, but "i luv u 4ever" is bouncy and cute. The verses sound bubbly; there's an airy, poppy vocal melody, a bit of funk influence in the guitar and bass, and a sprinkling of SFX to add texture. The transition to the chorus of “it feels so good, it feels so nice” is sweeping and romantic like the singer is on cloud 9. On first listen, it reminded me of "Yellow" by Hatsune Miku, which similarly brings a large dose of joy and percolating optimism. While this song is an emotional departure from the form set by I Love You Forever, it fits into the strong musical identity Babe City has curated in their first album. They are a band to keep an eye on.Keep up with Babe City and their future releases here.
